WaSH – Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
At Ladli Foundation, we believe that access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene (WaSH) is not merely a luxury but a fundamental human right. It's the cornerstone of a healthy, dignified life. Every individual deserves the opportunity to drink safe water, live in a clean environment, and practice hygiene that protects their well-being.
The status of WaSH in India is a pressing concern, exacerbated by the changing climate. Rising temperatures, erratic rainfall patterns, and water scarcity have made it increasingly difficult for communities to access clean water and maintain proper sanitation.
The situation with sanitation and hygiene is equally concerning. Despite government efforts to improve sanitation facilities, access to toilets remains limited, especially in rural areas. Open defecation continues to be a significant problem, contributing to the spread of diseases like cholera and typhoid. Additionally, lack of access to clean water and proper hygiene practices has further exacerbated health risks.
Our mission at Ladli Foundation is to create lasting change in communities by promoting WaSH practices and encouraging sustainable behaviour. Through our initiatives, we aim to reduce the burden of waterborne diseases, improve school attendance, and create a more equitable and sustainable world. By addressing the urgent challenges of WaSH, we are not only protecting lives but also building a healthier, more resilient future for generations to come.
Statistics on the situation are alarming :
Water scarcity : According to the Central Water Commission, over 60% of India's groundwater resources were overexploited by 2020, leading to water shortages in many parts of the country.
Sanitation : While significant progress has been made in increasing toilet coverage, millions of people still lack access to basic sanitation facilities. Open defecation rates, though declining, remained high in certain regions.
Hygiene : Poor hygiene practices, such as open defecation and lack of handwashing facilities, contribute to the spread of diseases, particularly among children.

Stories of Change
My name is Sofiya, and I am a school student in Bijapur. In our school, there were no proper sanitation facilities, which made it difficult for us to use washrooms during school hours. As we belong to the Muslim community, it is important for us to maintain Sunnat, but due to the lack of sanitation, we were often unable to do so. This led us to avoid coming to school or take frequent leave, as holding urine for long periods caused several health issues. We are extremely grateful to Ladli Foundation for installing AI-integrated toilets in our school. This has greatly improved our ability to maintain hygiene, and we no longer must miss school or face health problems. Thank you, Ladli Foundation, for making a difference in our lives.

My name is Shweta, and I live in Rohtak. I study in a government school in Garhi Bohar village. In our school, there were no sanitation or hygiene facilities, and we didn’t have washrooms. During menstruation, we were often forced to skip school for at least 5 days, which affected our studies. This was a major challenge for us, as we couldn’t focus on our education due to the lack of proper facilities. I would like to sincerely thank Ladli Foundation for developing washrooms and providing sanitation facilities in our school. This has made a huge difference, and now we can attend school regularly without any concerns. Thank you, Ladli Foundation, for your support and for improving our access to education.

My name is Komal, and I live in Delhi. I study at Gandhi Harijan School, a charitable school where we faced several challenges due to the lack of proper sanitation and clean water. The dirty washrooms often caused infections, leading to multiple health issues, making it difficult for us to focus on our studies. Thankfully, Ladli Foundation came to our school and addressed these problems by developing new, hygienic washrooms and resolving the water and sanitation issues. This has made a huge difference in our daily lives, allowing us to attend school without health concerns. I am truly grateful to Ladli Foundation for improving our school’s hygiene and creating a safer environment for us.
